Pediatric Care & Childhood Vaccines
Keeping our community healthy starts with healthy kids, and here at Swan Mountain, that is one of our highest priorities. Part of keeping children in best health includes vaccination, which we are now happy to offer at Swan Mountain.
Dr. Julie McKenzie is experienced in providing pediatric care to infants, children, and teens. Some of the services she provides are in-hospital newborn care, circumcision, well-child visits, and parent education. We also provide up-to-date immunization and acute care.
When to call us, even after hours:
- Fever over 102°F and not responding to medications
- Extreme sleepiness or irritability not relieved by comfort measures
- Any change in normal behavior
- Parental concerns or urgent questions
Newborn Specific:
- Poor feeding or will not feed three feedings in a row
- By four days old, has less than 6-8 wet diapers a day and/or less than 3-4 bowel movements a day
- Has more than one episode of forceful throwing up, bright green vomit or frequent throwing up within a six-hour period
- Skin color becomes yellow from the face to the belly or the whites of the eyes are yellow
When to go straight to Urgent Care/ER:
- Inability to keep any liquids down, no tears when crying, or no urination within a 12-hour period
- Rapid, noisy breathing, difficulty breathing, blue tint around the mouth or face
- Unresponsive to stimulation
- Swallowed foreign body
Childhood Vaccines
Childhood vaccinations are necessary to keep your children safe from multiple, dangerous, and deadly diseases. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Academy of Pediatrics encourage parents to follow the recommended vaccination schedule for their child, covering 16 different diseases, including diphtheria, polio, and tetanus.

We offer the following vaccines:
- Measles, mumps, and rubella
- Polio
- Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP)
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Chickenpox (Varicella)
- Rotavirus (oral vaccine)
- Pneumococcal
- HiB (ear infection)
- Influenza
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap)

After your child’s immunization, they may experience side effects such as soreness, low grade fever, or swelling at the injection site. These are common effects of getting childhood vaccines. If concerned, always call the on-call provider for Swan Mountain.
***Please note that our clinic can only vaccinate privately insured patients as we do not participate in federally funded vaccine programs (i.e. VFC program and the like).
Dr. McKenzie is happy to see all patients in office, regardless of insurance, but Public health will be providing vaccines for Medicaid, non-insured and other state/federally funded vaccine programs.
