OMT is a set of hands-on techniques used by osteopathic physicians (DOs) to diagnose, treat and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, Dr. McKenzie moves a patient’s muscles, fascia and joints via stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. Additional techniques can be used, such as dry needling or trigger point injections.
OMT can ease pain, promote healing and increase mobility. In addition to musculoskeletal pain or injuries, OMT can help with migraines, headaches, menstrual pain, abdominal pain, fibromyalgia, sinus congestion and more.

What is Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy?
The American Osteopathic Association has defined this procedure as a hands-on approach to restore the physiological balance and stimulate the natural healing capabilities of the muscles and bones in the body.
Treatment, diagnosis, and prevention of illnesses are done using gentle pressure, stretching, and resistance, generally termed as osteopathic manipulation.
At Swan Mountain Women’s & Family Clinic, Dr. McKenzie uses targeted manipulations to relieve muscular tears, pulls, strains, and inflammation, as well as manage poor posture and scar tissue formation.

What to expect at your OMT session:
- Generally, each session lasts for about 30 minutes.
- Dress in comfortable, loose fitting clothing.
- Drink plenty of water before and after.
- Mild soreness is common after a treatment but usually resolves in 1-2 days.
