Obstetrics Services
Obstetrics
Receive compassionate and comfortable care before, during, and after your pregnancy.
Goals of Obstetrical Services
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, women who have early and regular prenatal care are more likely to have healthy infants. Our approach to antepartum care is patient-centered and involves ongoing medical care, continuous risk assessment, and support. We encourage our patients to make well-informed decisions during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
At Swan Mountain Women’s & Family Clinic, you can be at ease during your appointment with us. We provide compassionate and informed care for all women. We understand that labor and delivery is one of the most important events in a woman’s life. We respect all patients’ desires to achieve the labor experience they wish with the benefit of our experience. All birth plans are honored, and we will assist you in developing a plan that meets your needs.
Our model of care is based on the concept that pregnancy and birth are normal life events. We are committed to offering you choices in your birthing experience while maintaining the health of you and your baby. We deliver exclusively at St. Anthony Summit Medical Center’s Birth Center in Frisco, CO.
Goals of Obstetrical Services
Prenatal Care
- When you think you’re pregnant call to schedule your initial appointment.
- Your first office visit is around 8 weeks, this visit could take an hour or more. We will perform a full physical exam. We will confirm your pregnancy and establish your due date with a transvaginal ultrasound. We will review your comprehensive medical and obstetric history. Prenatal labs will be discussed and initial blood work may be drawn in our office lab.
- You will have monthly appointments until the third trimester (28 weeks).
- A fetal anatomy ultrasound will be performed at 20 weeks' gestation.
- At 32 weeks, we will schedule every two-week check-ups to closely follow blood pressure, weight gain and the growth of your baby.
- Starting at 36 weeks, we will weekly check your blood pressure, baby’s growth and position.
- Scheduled cesarean deliveries are performed between 39-40 weeks' gestation.
- We hope your baby is here by 40-41 weeks. However, if you haven’t delivered by your due date we will begin to discuss the option of induction of labor.

Ultrasounds & Fetal Development
Ultrasound creates pictures of the internal organs of the body from sound waves. During pregnancy, ultrasounds are used to examine the fetus. Swan Mountain has two of the latest and most up-to-date GE Ultrasound machines. During a normal pregnancy, we will typically perform a transvaginal ultrasound to confirm your due date at your initial prenatal visit.
During the middle of the pregnancy around 20 weeks, we fully assess all of the baby’s anatomy and the growth with a fetal anatomy survey. Other ultrasounds will typically only be covered by insurance if there is a fetal or maternal indication. We are proud to offer this service and the convenience of its location to our patients.
Labor and Delivery
During the third trimester, your body starts to prepare for your baby’s birth. Your cervix starts to soften and thin (efface) and also may begin to dilate. The mucous plug that blocked the cervix during pregnancy may fall out. This doesn’t mean you are in labor. Labor could happen days or weeks after this event. You may see scant streaks of blood, especially after cervical exams in the office.
If you experience signs of labor, call us and go to labor and delivery. These are common signs of labor:
- Regular, painful contractions that are increasing in intensity and frequency over time. Once contractions are every 3–5 minutes (lasting 60 seconds) for 1–2
- hours you should head to the hospital (if you are full-term). Decrease that time frame if you are traveling a long distance, if you have a history of rapid labor or if your cervix is already dilated more than 3cm.
- Leaking amniotic fluid, also known as your “water breaking.”
- Any concerns regarding decreased fetal movements
- Vaginal bleeding
