Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery
When you come to us for gynecologic conditions, we will offer a range of treatment options. Conservative therapy such as medication and non-invasive procedures will sometimes fail. Surgery may then be the next step. Surgery is often the treatment for uterine fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic pain, heavy uterine bleeding, ovarian cysts, pelvic prolapse and incontinence. While surgery may sometimes require a large abdominal incision, our OB-GYNs are able to perform many different types of minimally invasive surgery. Some surgeries can be performed vaginally with no abdominal incisions. Most GYN surgeries can be performed laparoscopically. This is done through tiny 0.5-1 cm, which allow the surgeon to use a lighted camera and other small instruments to reach the pelvic anatomy that needs surgery.
For some complex procedures, robotic-assisted surgery, may be the most effective, least invasive treatment option. Robotic surgery is laparoscopic surgery with the added technology of daVinci.
Keep in mind that minimally invasive surgery may not be appropriate for every patient. Always ask your doctor about all of your surgical options. There are risks, benefits and alternatives to all types of surgeries.
